Cherion Drakes : Her Light Shines Brightly

Diana has a gift! She knows EXACTLY what YOU require. Trust her! As she says, “I am not teaching a technique…I am teaching YOU.” It’s true! It’s sacred, often guarded territory that we enter into as actors and Diana provides the tools, inspires the courage, and teaches me access to an inner safe space that allows me to go through those vulnerable doors and express the truth.

– Cherion Drakes

Cherion is coming up on 13 illustrious years of acting training at The Imagined Life. All of which have flown by as she has been kept busy with many acting projects. She was a lead in a comedic feature called Alien Vacation, and a supporting role in the feature film Fall Into Winter on the Great American Network. Her TV work has also kept her occupied. She guest starred on Hudson and Rex on CTV. Not to mention, the various commercials throughout her wonderful career.

True Transformation – Every Actor’s Dream

But perhaps one of Cherion’s most life-changing acting roles was as Salima in Carry The World : Women and Peace. A one-of-a-kind play (that was also in development for a series at Twentieth Century Fox) created and directed by Diana Castle. This theatrical event unflinchingly brought to light the tragedies and triumphs of seven brave women from different parts of the world – with one unifying thread – all survivors of war.

Inspired by and adapted from Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Marissa Roth’s One Person Crying : Women and War, the audience went on a transformative ride achieved through dialogue, testimony, song and dance, which collectively delved into the battlefield of the human spirit.

Cherion, as part of the incredible cast, played at The Museum of Tolerance, Pepperdine University, The Imagined Life Theatre space, and at the California Institution for Women (CIW) in Chino.

The performances at the women’s prison was particularly and profoundly moving. The spectators deeply empathized with the women in the story – as fellow survivors of violence. Cherion got to experience one of the highest honors to every actor – when the audience expressed their shock in the talkback upon learning that each actress was American and not from the countries they represented in the play!
