Yaya DaCosta : Rooted in Her Ancestral Power

This Brazilian-American actress, by way of New York, has captivated viewers throughout her extensive career in film and TV. 

Yaya was April Sexton, a former emergency department nurse at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center on NBC’s Chicago Med from 2015 to 2021.  She did a crossover on Chicago P.D. from 2017-2019. Shortly after that, she departed from the Chicago Med universe due to landing a starring role on Fox’s Our Kind of People, as Angela Vaughn, a hair products entrepreneur. 

More notable credits include : Bolden, Peel, Faith Under Fire, The Nice Guys, The Simpsons, Whitney (as Whitney Houston, directed by Angela Bassett), Unforgettable, And So It Goes, and Lee Daniels’ The Butler with another Imagined Lifer Aml Ameen.

We won’t forget the grace and power she brings to the role of Andrea Freeman in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer, where she has been a lead for the past two seasons.
